Announcement: We no longer run the Hull Mentor service. For any enquiries, please contact [email protected] or visit the Independent Visitors Project website.

All Mentors are fully trained and hold an enhanced DBS. The relationship is independent to the Hull youth justice service and is manged solely by the project staff.  If you need to get in touch, please go directly through [email protected] or to [email protected]. We will then liaise 1-1 with the volunteer.

How it works

  • The Mentor will meet the young person once a week, for eight weeks initially. This can be reviewed and renewed if required.
  • Dates and times are planned between the young person and the Mentor. The Mentor will also  liaise directly with the parents/carers to organise.
  • Mentors are supervised by the project staff and are required to provide brief feedback after each contact, and a small budget is provided for appropriate activities.
  • Mentors can support the young person to find suitable hobbies and interests in their local area.
  • The service provided is confidential - unless there is a concern about the young person or someone else.
  • Mentors will encourage the young person to attend all their youth justice appointments and provide practical support to the young person where possible.

What we need from professionals

  • To provide us with any relevant updates or changes in risks
  • Invites and feedback from any relevant meetings

To make a referral please contact Chris at 0787241690 or email [email protected] who will send over all the relevant paperwork to complete.

Parents and carers

What we need from parents/carers is their support with:

  • Arranging dates and times for the visits.
  • To liaise with the volunteer to inform of any important updates or if visits need to be rearranged.
  • Reminding the young person about any planned visits and any ideas which you may think benefit the young person in their future.
