How long have you been volunteering for?

Just coming up to 18 months

What prompted you to start volunteering?

I always wished to do something that was rewarding and giving back.

What does your volunteering role entail?

My role varies, I do a mixture of activities with my young person e.g., going to the cinema, playing tennis.I If it is doable and safe, and it is of interest to my young person, we will do it.

 Why do you enjoy volunteering?

I can bring joy and happiness to another individual. Making another person smile is priceless.

What difference do you think your volunteering makes?

I am a support network, a friend, I am someone my young person can confide in and rely upon.

Please share a little success story.

I built my relationship with my young person via Teams. This was a challenge, however, we both made it work and it has built a strong foundation. My young person has steadily grown in confidence, and this is evident in his behaviour, he has also shared personal details with me about his background. I was deeply touched when my young person gave me a Thank You card for Volunteers Week, however, I also thanked him, for I do feel extremely lucky to be part of his life and journey into adulthood.
