York Drug and Alcohol Service

We know that some people would like help to reduce their drinking, but don’t need treatment for alcohol dependency.
The New Ways team can offer guidance that’s right for you and your goals.
We work in partnership with the City of York Council Health Trainers to help you make the changes you want to see.
You can find out more about City of York Council Health Trainers and the support they offer on their website:

How we work
When you first get in touch, we’ll offer you an initial chat to discuss your goals and what level of support would work best for you.
We’ll then introduce you to a Health Trainer or a New Ways Practitioner, who will work with you to help you meet your goals.

What we offer:
- Up to 10 one-to-one sessions of tailored support with your designated practitioner close to your home, work or online, helping you to find new ways for coping with life’s challenges.
- A personalised support plan to help you set and achieve your goals.
- Groups with people who have similar experience, if you would find this helpful.
You will also be able to access health trainer support around other aspects of your health, guidance with education, training and employment, and support with referral to counselling services.
Speak to your New Ways Practitioner to find out more about how we can help.

Take our alcohol quiz
It’s easy to drink too much without realising it, or the impact it has on our health and wellbeing.
Take the quiz below to check how much alcohol you’re drinking. It only takes a few minutes!
The quiz will help you work out what support might be relevant for you, but you can also contact us to discuss things if you’re unsure.
For some general advice on how to reduce how much alcohol you’re drinking, you can also visit our advice page.
