Our New Ways team supports people whose drinking or drug use is low-level.

We know some people want to make healthier choices and lifestyle changes, but don’t need a full treatment plan.

We offer advice and guidance that’s right for you and your goals.

If you are using opiates or are dependent on drugs or alcohol, please contact the main service team instead.

How we work

Our team work alongside the City of York Health Trainers to promote health and wellbeing.

If you are aged 18-25, we have a designated Young Adults Worker who can work with you to overcome some of the pressures associated with substances.

If you are aged 25 and over, our GP Liaison Worker will support you to achieve your personal reduction goals.

We provide:

  • 10 sessions of 1-1 tailored support with your designated worker
  • A personalised support plan to help you set and achieve your goals.
  • Group work with people who have similar lived experience, although this is not mandatory

You will also be able to access counselling, health training, and support with education, training and employment. Speak to your worker to find out more about how we can help.

Find out if New Ways is right for you

To find out if New Ways is right for you, please complete the quiz below. If your answers suggest your drinking is low risk, contact us to find out more about how we can support you.

For advice on how to cut down or quit drinking alcohol, visit our national page.

Do you think you might be drinking too much?

We're here to support you with your levels of drinking. If you are concerned about how much you are drinking, please take our alcohol quiz. The quiz will take a couple of minutes to complete.

We will ask you how much you are drinking on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. We will also ask you about your behaviour when you drink.

At the end of the quiz we will provide guidance based on your levels drinking. This might include visiting your GP, contacting us or speaking to our online team.
