SmokeFree Workforce Training
Designed for business owners, managers, leaders and workplace champions who want to support employee health and productivity.
Smoking costs Hull millions of pounds every year in healthcare, social care, fires and lost productivity.
We’re on a mission to improve our city by reducing smoking, particularly amongst routine and manual workers who have the highest smoking prevalence in the country.
This session covers:
- Understanding tobacco addiction and the health risks of smoking
- The impact of smoking on workplaces and business productivity
- How to talk to colleagues about the benefits of quitting smoking and the free specialist help available from SmokeFree Hull.
It’s designed to help you to help others.
Sessions can be delivered:
- Onsite at your workplace or any other suitable venue.

Brief Intervention Training - Hull
Designed for health and social care frontline and support staff, who support smokers and/or their families. Available training dates and booking form are below.
This 90 minute session gives information about the harmful effects of smoking and the benefits of quitting.
It also gives you advice on talking to people about their smoking and referring them to specialist services. It is designed to help you to help others.
Training is currently provided via MS Teams, however dedicated group face-to-face sessions can also be arranged.
Please also note this training is free however failure to attend may result in a charge.
A yearly refresher is not required but it is recommended that the Very Brief Advice (VBA) Video is watched annually.

Very Brief Advice Training (VBA) – Hull
Designed for Hull residents, employers and staff.
This session gives basic information about the harmful effects of smoking and the products and support available to smokers who want to quit.
It can be used to help family, friends or work colleagues who want to improve their health.
The duration can be adapted to the audience and can be delivered online or in a workplace or community setting

SmokeFree Champion Training - Hull
Designed for anyone who has a paid or voluntary role that includes promoting healthy lifestyles within a workplace or a community setting.
This 2-hour workshop is aimed at people who want to include smoking cessation advice and information as part of their workplace or community role. It’s flexible enough to be useful for paid HR professionals with a remit for staff wellbeing or volunteers for health and wellbeing charities, and a range of other ‘champion’ roles.
The session covers the harmful effects of smoking and the benefits of quitting plus advice on talking to people about their smoking and referring them to specialist services. It is designed to help you to help others.
It also includes generating and sharing ideas on how to use whatever resources you have, such as noticeboards, awareness stands and social media to spread the smoking cessation message. You’ll also learn about the resources SmokeFree Hull can provide you with to help with your role.
