Stop smoking advice for professionals

If you want to reduce smoking and improve health in your community, we can help. We offer free training to healthcare professionals and employers, and you can refer people to our service for help.

    • Session duration: 2 hours

    Level 1 – Brief Intervention Training - Hull

    Designed for healthcare professionals who support smokers and/or their families.

    This 2 hour session gives information about the harmful effects of smoking and the benefits of quitting.

    It also gives you advice on talking to people about their smoking and referring them to specialist services. It is designed to help you to help others.

    Training is currently provided via MS Teams, however dedicated group face-to-face sessions can also be arranged.

    Please also note this training is free however failure to attend may result in a charge.

    A yearly refresher is not required but it is recommended that the Very Brief Advice (VBA) Video is watched annually.

     

    • Session duration: 1 hour

    Very Brief Advice Training (VBA) – Hull

    Designed for any Hull residents who want to learn about the risks of smoking and benefits of quitting.

    This 1-hour session gives basic information about the harmful effects of smoking and the products and support available to smokers who want to quit.

    It can be used to help family, friends or work colleagues who want to improve their health.  

    Training is currently provided via MS Teams, however dedicated group face-to-face sessions can also be arranged.

    • Session duration: 2 hours

    Level 2 - Community Champion Training - Hull

    Designed for anyone who has a paid or voluntary role that includes promoting healthy lifestyles within a workplace or a community setting. This session has recently been redesigned into a shorter more flexible offer to meet the needs of a wide range of ‘champion’ roles and can be delivered either face to face or online.

    This 2-hour workshop is aimed at people who want to include smoking cessation advice and information as part of their workplace or community role. It’s flexible enough to be useful for paid HR professionals with a remit for staff wellbeing or volunteers for health and wellbeing charities, and a range of other ‘champion’ roles.

    The session covers the harmful effects of smoking and the benefits of quitting plus advice on talking to people about their smoking and referring them to specialist services. It is designed to help you to help others.

    It also includes generating and sharing ideas on how to use whatever resources you have, such as noticeboards, awareness stands and social media to spread the smoking cessation message. You’ll also learn about the resources SmokeFree Hull can provide you with to help with your role.

    • Session duration: 4 hours

    Supported Pharmacotherapy Training - Hull

    Designed for Pharmacists and pharmacy staff.

    This 4-hour workshop helps you understand the health conditions associated with smoking and supports you to deliver brief interventions alongside pharmacotherapies.

    Tailored for pharmacy staff with a focus on one-to-one stop smoking support and PharmOutcomes support. Adding to your already great knowledge base providing you with further training to help you, help clients who visit the Pharmacy.

    A 2-hour annual refresher is required.

    • Session duration: 2.5 hours

    Level 1 – Mental Health Module - Hull

    Designed for healthcare professionals working in the mental health sector.

    This 2.5-hour workshop gives you information about the harmful effects of smoking and the benefits of quitting. Assisting people with mental health problems, helping them when they need it most.

    It also gives you advice on talking to people about their smoking and referring them to specialist services, in particular supporting smokers with identified mental health problems.

    • Session duration: 90 minutes

    Specialist Smoking in Pregnancy Training - Hull

    Designed for Midwives, doctors, nurses, sonographers, health visitors, healthcare assistants and consultants.

    This 90-minute workshop gives you information about the harmful effects of smoking and the benefits of quitting when working with pregnant women and families. Adding to your wealth of knowledge to assist you in providing that extra level of care at such an important part of mothers and their families' lives. This could be life-changing for them in the best possible way.
