New grant to support people with alcohol problems

29 January 2020

Hull ReNew has received £133,000 from Public Health England to improve local community facilities for people affected by substance misuse.

The team have used the grant to redesign and refurbish their alcohol hub in Bransholme. They updated their IT suite and added an area for people to get together and work in groups. Anyone in Hull is welcome to use this hub.

“The refurbished building is more welcoming and accessible, and makes much better use of the available space.” - Carlie Dunn, Alcohol Project Manager, ReNew.

“Local people now have a much more comfortable and appealing environment in which to work with us to address their problems with alcohol. We also have better facilities for people to use to search and apply for jobs, education and training as part of their recovery.”

“The investment in ReNew’s alcohol hub is fantastic,” says Frank, a former service user who now supports ReNew as a peer mentor and volunteer.

“One of the hardest parts of recovery is walking through the door and coming into services, but ReNew has created such a warm and welcoming space that truly helps to relieve some of those anxieties, creating a positive environment for recovery.”
