During recent months Newham, along many others boroughs in the UK is being affected by Synthetic Opiate related overdoses and deaths. Drugs and alcohol services with partners in the community have come together in a bid to reduce the harm caused by Synthetic Opiates such as Nitazenes.
Newham Rise has created a training package for professionals, aimed to upskill Newham stakeholders on how to manage the risks associate with these drugs. Training sessions are available to book on the Newham Rise website and there is a focus on harm reduction advice and techniques that minimise risk and can be life saving.
Newham Rise are now providing Nitazene testing strips to all of our service users who may be at risk, as part of our work to reduce drug harms from New Synthetic Opioids (NSO). We continue to equip and train our service users, partner agencies and the community in the use of Naloxone (opiate overdose reversal drug) and have now open slots for rapid clinical assessment and opiate substitute prescribing. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch– we also have a 24 hour telephone number 0800 652 3879.
